So, I've been asked by a few readers what I do for a living. What my chosen profession is, as it were. So I decided, "What the hell, I might as well let the cat out of the bag." My friend, LL Robot is quite comfortable talking about what he does. So why shouldn't I? Because we're in the same business, he and I. He's a news photojournalist (photographer) , and I'm a news producer.
And as impressive as the title PRODUCER sounds, trust me, I ain't the shit. If I were a movie producer, you might want to start kissing my feet. But "news producers" are just the glorified geeks of the newsroom. We're the people that construct the newscasts that you see on TV. We decide (to a certain degree) what the big story of the night will be, and how it should be presented to viewers. Producers also write much of the news stories you watch.
We try, with all of our human power, to make sure the newscast is informative, relative, and to a certain extent, entertaining. So that's what I do. I'm a news producer at KOIN TV. Of course, there are few things that I didn't mention in the main job description like "babysitter," "scapegoat," and "grunt." But those are just byproducts. And by babysitter, I mean producers have to make sure that reporters and photographers are actually out in the field doing their jobs, and not just getting drunk at TGI Friday's... or whichever joint they parked the live truck. And as you can see by my pictures, our reporters are out in this great big world without any supervision. So they tend to do weird shit. But that's OK. The boys and girls at KOIN are professionals. Unlike me. I'm truly about as unprofessional as producers get. That's probably why I'm seen a blacksheep in newsrooms. That's ok though. Every newsroom needs its fair share of psychos.

On a separate note, the jihad has begun. I posted my first picture of LL Robot ... and he has posted his first picture of me. It would appear as if Robot is taking a little more diplomatic approach. I do look like a retard in his picture. But when I don't look like a retard when I drink?? But anyway, we'll see how he matches my newest attack, in our Photo Jihad!
